Wayne Luk

Professor of Computer Engineering, Imperial College London

He is the Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in High-performance Embedded and Distributed Systems, and was a Visiting Professor at Stanford University. He has developed novel architectures, design methods and tools for accelerating many critical applications, and techniques for managing accelerators in heterogeneous cloud platforms. His work has been supported by many EPSRC and European grants, including three platform grants and the POETS programme grant, as well as various FP6, FP7 and Horizon2020 awards including HARNESS (Hardware- and Network-Enhanced Software Systems for Cloud Computing). He received a Research Excellence Award from Imperial College and 15 awards from international conferences. His research on the Harmonic tool chain to produce efficient heterogeneous multiprocessor designs was commercialised by BlueBee Technologies, which was acquired by the US biotechnology company Illumina in 2020. QUENCH will benefit from his experience in accelerator design, resource management in heterogeneous cloud platforms and meta-programming.
