Simon Benjamin is Professor of Quantum Technologies with the Materials Department in the University of Oxford. He leads a group of 15 applied theorists who look at diverse aspects of quantum computing, including architectures, fault tolerance, and algorithms that are robust against hardware imperfections. His team are the creators of QuEST, a world-leading tool for classical emulation of quantum devices. Benjamin and his team engage widely with the international quantum computing scene: he leads the theory effort for the EU Flagship project AQTION, and for one of the major projects funded by the LOGIQ initiative from the agency IAPRA in the USA. From 2014 through 2020, Benjamin was an Associate Director of the £40m Oxford-led UK National Hub on Networked Quantum Information Technologies (NQIT) and is part of the leadership team for the current National Hub in Quantum Computation and Simulation (HQCS). He is also CSO and cofounder of Quantum Motion.
