Michael studied an MSci Mathematics here at Queen’s University Belfast beginning in 2015, and staying at Queen’s he began a PhD under Dr. John McAllister in Quantum Computing in February 2020. In the last few years through the course of his PhD, his specific area of research has been in the emerging field of quantum circuit cutting, which shows promise in reducing the number of qubits needed to execute larger quantum algorithms. This area will hopefully enhance the state-of-the-art in the field towards a possible ‘quantum supremacy’ in the future! Other previous works he explored during his PhD include hardware classical FPGA emulation of quantum error-correction algorithms. He is excited about the idea of developing new research towards more robust and reliable quantum computing in the future under the RoaRQ project!
